Sports

At Clinton State School, our committed and well-resourced Physical Education faculty use current curriculum documents to inform teaching and ensure that students have access to a wide range of Physical Education and extracurricular sporting opportunities.

Clinton State School recognises that participation in sport and physical activity plays a significant role in the development of a child’s life. We actively encourage all students to participate in a range of age-appropriate physical activity, school and extra-curricular sport.

There are a range of physical activities, school and extra-curricular sport available to students at Clinton State School including school-based activities and selection processes that facilitate participation in Representative sport (via District, regional and state representation).

1. School-based Sport - sporting events organised and managed by the school.
2. Interschool Sport - competitive opportunities for students to represent the school in team sports, where teams are selected and managed by school staff in their sole discretion.
3. Representative Sport - there are competitive opportunities for students aged from 10 years.  After a selection process, students can progress into District (Port Curtis), Regional (Capricornia) and State representation for students in Queensland School Sport sanctioned activities.

Every student is given the opportunity to be involved in a sport, so we offer a large selection of sports in which boys and girls can participate individually or as part of a team.
Both boys and girls can choose from: Football (Soccer), Australian Rules, Touch Football, Volleyball, Softball, Hockey, Golf, Skipping, and the Kilometre Club.
Boys also have the opportunity to participate in Rugby League whilst girls can choose Netball.
 Rugby League
Boys in Years 5 and 6 compete in the Foundation Cup, while 10 year old boys compete in the one day event for the PJ Marsh Cup.

Golf

Golf is offered to boys and girls.  This competition is based upon a one day event held locally.

Soccer

Football is an increasingly popular sport for boys and girls. Currently, we field teams in the Toyworld Cup and the Six-a-Side Competition.

Netball

Netball is a very popular sport at Clinton for girls in Year 5 and Year 6.  Currently, we field 2 teams in the Inter School Competition.

Volleyball

Volleyball is available to students in Years 5 and 6 where we play in the local competition against other schools in the Gladstone region.

Touch Football

The 5 a side competition hosted by Benaraby State School is a one day event for Year 5 and Year 6 girls and boys.

Hockey

Hockey is played by students in Years 5 and 6. Our students travel to the Gladstone hockey fields to compete in the local interschool competition.

AFL

Australian Football is offered for boys and girls in Years 5 and 6 to compete in the interschool competition.
Other competitive sporting and recreational opportunities include: Jump Rope for Heart, Auskick, Hot Shots Tennis, Dance and Indigenous Sports.
Inter-school competitions, inter-house competitions, inter-class competitions and extra-curricular sporting activities all combine to create the chance for teams and individuals to participate in a safe and friendly environment.  Inter-school competitions allow the students who are able to provide their own transport the opportunity to travel to other venues and enjoy the friendships that develop from such activities. These events generate a deep feeling of pride for the students when competing in Clinton colours.
